The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
